Jane Foster Designs - Peace & Love Wooden Mobile

Rather than trying to explain this product to you, I thought I would just share the words of the designer Jane Foster...

What is very prominent in my mind is how much suffering there is in our world. What I long for is a more peaceful world, where there are no more wars, suffering and heartache. I know this is out of my control and the only part I can have a small influence over is how I am at grass roots levels, with my friends, family and community.

I created the miniature wooden wall hangings above with peace + love in mind. These are little items that can hang on your wall or be sent to a loved one. (*You can even write a message on the back as they’re plain on the reverse).

These have been made with wood from sustainable woodlands, which mean these don’t cost the earth. (literally!)

My process involved several steps. I started with my Peace Girl illustration above and then created a paper prototype of how I wanted the item to look with it’s various parts.

I then got a company to laser cut the various components for me. The most fiddly part was assembling al the various teeny tiny pieces together. This stage became a real labour of love as I’ve got large hands and fingers!

Each component had to be threaded with little lengths of strong thread and then tied into two knots, making sure that there was just enough ‘slack’ for the components to swing.

*This product has been more labour intensive than I had imagined so I’ve decided to only create a small limited edition of these!

Over the years, Jane and I have shared our thoughts and worries about the world and I am so happy to be able to have a few of these beautiful mobiles at Pappa Sven, in our own little attempt to share peace, love and joy at a grass roots level ...

This has been made from sustainable wood and hand assembled by Jane at home in her studio. The height is 10cm. Printed design on one side.

*This is not a toy and is very delicate so not suitable for young children. This has come from a very small edition.
